Balkan Trade and Security Forum – 7th February 2024 House of Lords.

On Wednesday 7th February the  UK- Balkan region Trade and Security Forum was launched in the House of Lords to high acclaim by all those in attendance.

Hosted by Lord MacKenzie of Framwellgate OBE LLB,  twelve countries from the region with representatives from their respective London Embassies, plus the European Union, gathered in the Attlee Room to meet historically  for the  first time as a collective, to celebrate the common goals we all share surrounding trade, our national security and  commitment towards driving this powerful initiative forward.

Subsequent to the opening address by The Lord Mackenzie, guests enjoyed the fine hospitality of the House of Lords.

Following luncheon a series of presentations occurred outlining the aims and objectives of the forum, whilst highlighting the exceptional UK expertise and capability available to  support the process.

The UK Balkan regional Trade and Security Forum has been two years in creation, evolving  from a model of effective international collaboration,  forged between the Republic of Bulgaria London Embassy and the National Security and Resilience Consortium (NSaRC) from the United Kingdom .

The event was ceremonially supported by Officers and Leading Cadet Madigan from the Royal Navy sponsored Orpington Sea Cadet Corps

The core aims of the forum are

– To meet London Embassy Colleagues on a quarterly basis from multiple countries for the purpose of forging positive, trusted trading and security relationships.

– Provide a platform  for this to occur using the “Bulgaria Model” as a template.

–  Share strategies between Embassies for effective trade activity with the UK.

– Increase the potential and opportunity for intra regional trade conversations.

– For trade Attaches to meet on a regular basis to drive ideas and initiatives forward.

– Create an effective environment and conduit for convivial and meaningful dialogue.

All those present at the launch are committed to the process and look forward to the first quarterly meeting to be hosted by the Bulgarian Embassy.
